Have you tried GAC???

I was just talking to a fellow artist in the store, singing the praises of the many different Golden Gac products and the amzing possabilities. I thought what a perfect time to give them a shout out on the blog. Below you will find descriptions of each one and what they do, we carry all of the GAC’s in the store and would love to share our personal experience with you. Stop in and ask us about these hidden treasures. GOLDEN GAC (short for Golden Artist Colors) Specialty Acrylic Polymers are based on 100% acrylic polymer emulsions. The GACs are useful as mediums or modifiers of acrylic paints. GACs can be blended with GOLDEN Acrylic Paints to extend the paint, regulate transparency, create glazes, increase gloss, reduce viscosity or improve adhesion and film integrity. The GAC polymers can also be used for binding pigment solids for various effects and surfaces. Unlike the other GOLDEN Mediums and Gels, GAC Acrylic Polymers have only a minimum amount of thickeners, levelers, defoamers and surfactants to ensure good film formation.

The consistency of the GAC polymers is very fluid and thinner than other GOLDEN Mediums. Since they do not have thickeners added, these polymers will reduce the thickness of most GOLDEN Acrylic Paints. GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics are slightly thicker than the GACs, but will be the color line least changed in viscosity with any addition of a GAC polymer.

Each GAC product represents a unique polymer that offers certain specific attributes. Therefore, each GAC will have its own unique benefits and applications. Refer to the individual product description of each GAC below to find the proper medium to use for a particular application.

GAC 100 Acrylic
A liquid acrylic polymer emulsion useful for diluting and extending colors as well as increasing flexibility and film integrity. Wets out solids more readily than other polymers and is useful for creating homemade paints.
GAC 200 Acrylic
A liquid acrylic polymer emulsion that is the hardest and least flexible of GOLDEN acrylics. Useful for increasing film hardness and reducing tack. Increases adhesion to non-porous surfaces; however some surfaces, such as glass and glazed tile, will not allow for a permanent bond. Used in its pure form, it is limited to applications on non-flexible supports. Generally recommend a maximum level of GAC 200 be 33% of the entire paint mixture.
GAC 400 Acrylic
A liquid acrylic polymer emulsion which dries to a hard, stiff film. When applied over a fabric support, such as cotton, linen or silk, the GAC 400 will serve to dramatically stiffen the support. This allows the artist to transform a lightweight fabric into a free-standing form that will hold its shape.
GAC 500 Acrylic
A liquid acrylic polymer emulsion with leveling ability, that forms a hard, glossy film. Useful for increasing film hardness and reducing tack, while maintaining flexibility. The hardest polymer that is suitable for flexible supports.
GAC 700 Acrylic
A liquid acylic polymer emulsion offering excellent film clarity, gloss, and reduced shrinkage. Useful for glaze applications. Exercise care to reduce foaming during application.
GAC 800 Acrylic
A liquid acrylic polymer emulsion that does not craze in pours/puddles. That is to say that it dries with the same uniform surface and dimensional integrity as when wet (other GACs will craze, developing shrinkage crevices running across the surface). Dries with good gloss and flexibility, but only moderate clarity. Useful to increase adhesion to chalky surfaces.
GAC 900 Acrylic
A liquid acrylic polymer emulsion which when heat-set offers a very soft hand and laundering stability. This product is most useful to artists painting on clothing. GAC 900 can be blended with various acrylic colors to produce fabric paints that can be airbrush, hand brush or screen applied.

Closed on Easter Sunday

ow what a week. We just took down the shamrocks of St Patty’s Day and now it seems, here comes Peter Cotton Tail. Make sure you get in this week for any last minute egg painting needs. We will be closed on Sunday the 23rd so the whole Utrecht Family can paint their own eggs, or at the very least eat lots of chocolate. So nurse that hangover from too much green beer, frolic in the grass on the first day of Spring on Thursday and eat lots of eggs on Sunday. It will be years before all these things smoosh into just one week again.

Have you tried our paint yet?

I hope you are one of the many artists who already use Utrecht Oil and Acrylic Paint. If you haven’t tried our paint it’s time you should, and I’d like to tell you a few reasons why.

  • Utrecht has been making Artists’ Quality Oil and Acrylic Paint since 1949 in Brooklyn, New York. While some retailers hire other companies to produce their brands, Utrecht exclusively manufactures the colors that carry our name.
  • Utrecht Artists’ Acrylic Colors are thick, concentrated paint with the maximum pigment load possible. At a price that can’t be beat.
  • Utrecht Oil Colors have a buttery rich hand and equal or exceed other brands in quality, at a price no other manufacturer can equal.
  • Utrecht produces a huge assortment of paints and mediums in small and large tubes, pints, quarts and even Gallons.

Still not sure… Come into our store any day of the week and give it a try, our demo table is always set up for just this purpose. We love our paint and we know if you give it a try you’ll love it to. We will even give you a sample to try out in your own studio. It’s time to paint!!!

Get it before it’s gone!!!

Only two more days left to gather up the cool holiday sale stuff. It’s all marked down and needs a good home. What’s left will soon be sent to the island of unwanted toys. You don’t want that on your conscience. So take back those plaid pants your Aunt Sofie gave you and come in and buy what you really want. You can also still take advantage of our awesome gift card special. Here’s the deal you can treat yourself to a $50 gift card and get a $5 one for free. It doesn’t get any better than that. Well unless you buy a $100 gift card, then we’ll give you a free $10 gift card. Yeah…. that’s even better. I can keep going, but you get the point. Art supplies for a friend are a good thing. Art supplies for yourself are even better. Who say’s it’s better to give than to receive? :)

If we don’t see you before, have a Happy New Year!!!
